The Continental platform in the New Generation Scania (NTG)

Starting with the New Generation Scania (NTG), Scania began to use a new electronic engine management platform supplied by Continental/VDO, featuring XPI (Xtra Pressure Injection) — a high-pressure common rail system that replaced HPI in more modern versions of Scania trucks.

The EMS S8 and EMS S10 belong to the same family of Continental platforms for the XPI system, differing in hardware generation, software version, and specific vehicle application.

ECM Tech Center works with diagnosis, repair, and supply of EMS S8 and EMS S10 modules, with compatibility verification by chassis and part number before any shipment.

Essential difference: EMS S8 and EMS S10 share the Continental/XPI architecture but have different hardware and software versions. Simple identification as "EMS S8" or "EMS S10" does not guarantee compatibility — correct application depends on the complete part number, specific hardware, and vehicle chassis.

Technical Details — Continental EMS S8

The EMS S8 is the engine management unit of the Continental/VDO platform used in the New Generation Scania with the XPI injection system. The central processor is the Motorola/Freescale MPC5566, a high-performance automotive microcontroller from the PowerPC family.

There are documented records of different hardware versions of the EMS S8, including variants HW 1924091 and HW 1924093, each associated with specific engines and calibrations.

Technical Details — EMS S10

The EMS S10 is the evolution of the Continental platform for the next generation of Scania NTG trucks, maintaining the XPI architecture (common rail injection) and complying with Euro 6 emission standards. Although it shares the Continental platform base with the EMS S8, the S10 has its own hardware and software, optimized for the new engine generations.

EMS S10 compatibility follows the same rules as S8: mandatory identification by part number, hardware, software, and vehicle chassis.

⚠️ Do not confuse with other Scania systems

System Module Technology
Pre-HPI — 4 Series (94/114/124/144) Bosch MS 6.2 Mechanical Injector Units
HPI — series with DC12/DC13 HPI EMS S6 / EMS S6E + EDC S6 High pressure with two paired ECUs

If you are unsure about your vehicle's system, send a photo of the module label via WhatsApp — the software code and part number identify the system exactly.

⚠️ Compatibility confirmed before shipping

Before shipping, provide: chassis number, photo of the original ECU label, part number, truck model, year, and engine. Our team verifies the application and availability before completing the sale.

It is not correct to determine compatibility solely by the name EMS S8 or EMS S10 — there are different hardware and software versions for each application.

Do you have a defective EMS S8 or EMS S10?

1. Contact and triage — provide model, year, engine, chassis, ECU part number, fault code, and symptoms.

2. Module shipment — we arrange details; you send via postal service or carrier.

3. Bench diagnosis — we analyze power supply, protection circuits, MPC5566 microprocessor, memories, CAN communication, input and output circuits, injector drivers, connectors, solders, and possible damage from overvoltage or short circuit.

4. Quotation — technical report for your approval. No repair is performed without customer approval.

5. Repair — replacement of defective components and, when necessary, data recovery or configuration.

6. Final bench test — before return.

7. Shipment with warranty — module returns with fiscal documentation and 90 days technical warranty.

📦 Average turnaround time: 7 to 15 business days. 🚚 We serve all of Brazil — local pickup and delivery in CE and PR.

Programming and Configuration

Replacing an EMS S8 or EMS S10 may require programming, configuration, or electronic adaptation procedures. The SDP3 (Scania Diagnos & Programmer 3) is used for diagnosing and programming Scania electronic systems. ECM Tech Center can guide the responsible workshop on the necessary procedure according to the application.

Exchange Program — Remanufactured Module

Subject to availability, ECM Tech Center offers revised or remanufactured EMS S8 and EMS S10 modules via an exchange program. The customer sends the defective module as part of the negotiation and receives a compatible, revised, and tested unit. Prior evaluation is mandatory before completing the exchange.

Warranty

Repaired or remanufactured modules come with a 90-day technical warranty from the date of receipt by the customer. Before installation, check power supply, groundings, wiring harness, connectors, and vehicle's electronic network.
