ECM Cummins CM850 — ISL 8.3L Engine

The ECM Cummins CM850 is an electronic engine control unit genuinely manufactured by Cummins for ISL 8.3L engines — used in Volkswagen Constellation trucks and in buses and fleets equipped with this engine. Unlike Bosch ECUs that control Cummins engines, the CM850 is a Cummins product, featuring a Motorola/Delphi processor and an external PSOP AM29BL162CB calibration memory.

The AM29BL162CB memory stores calibration and injection maps. Its failure causes loss of calibration, engine in emergency mode, or no start. The module manages 6 common rail injection channels (injectors 1–6), rotation and temperature sensors, CAN communication, and J1939 diagnostics.
